AI trigger

A project setting that runs a model with your instructions on each record that lands in a dataset and meets its conditions. The reply is stored as a record in the trigger’s output dataset. See AI triggers.

API key

A workspace credential (hk_…) that lets a CI job, script or backend call the admin API and /mcp as the person who created it, held to the key’s role. See Roles, API keys and connected agents.

Attempt

One try at sending a delivery. A delivery gets up to eight over about 27 hours, and each failed attempt is kept with its status code, latency and error. See Attempts and retries.

Connected agent

A coding agent, such as Claude Code or Cursor, that signed in to Hookie’s MCP server over OAuth and acts as you, within the access you grant it in Settings → Connected agents. See Connected agents.

Criteria

The conditions an endpoint applies to every event it receives. An event that fails them is kept as a submission but makes no record. See Criteria on endpoints.

Dataset

A named collection of records in a project, such as orders. It exists from the moment the first record is filed under its name. See Datasets and records.

Delivery

One record sent to one destination as a signed POST, retried until it arrives or runs out of attempts. Each one counts once against the monthly delivery allowance. See Destinations and deliveries.

Destination

An https URL that a project sends its records to, optionally only those of some datasets, with every request signed with the destination’s secret. See Destinations and deliveries.

Endpoint

A public URL, https://app.hookie.ai/{workspace}/{project}/{webhook}, whose random last segment is its credential. What is posted to it is stored in the endpoint’s dataset. See Endpoints and ingest keys.

Event

Anything sent to Hookie. Where the API names an event, as in Hookie-Event-Id, event_id or search/events, it means a record.

Hold

What happens to a record’s deliveries once the month’s delivery allowance is used up: they are neither sent nor lost, and Send held deliveries sends them once there is room. See The delivery allowance and holds.

Ingest key

A credential (ik_live_…) that your own servers send events into one project with. It is the only way to route events with rules and to tail the live stream. See Endpoints and ingest keys.

Mapping

A {path, key} pair that copies one field of an event into the stored record under a key you choose. With no mappings, the whole payload is stored. See Mappings.

Portal

The customer portal: a page you embed in your own app, where your customers add the destinations your events are sent to and inspect and replay their deliveries. Each customer gets in with a token you issue. See Customer portal.

Project

The unit everything else belongs to: endpoints, keys, datasets, rules, destinations, triggers and workflows. Every workspace starts with one called Default. A project’s type, Endpoints or AI trigger (webhook or ai_trigger in the API), decides only what it starts with. See Projects.

Record

One routed event, stored as a JSON object in a dataset. Records are what fan out to destinations, the live stream, AI triggers and workflows. See Records.

Replay

Sending a delivery that did not arrive again, as a new delivery with the same event id. It counts against the delivery allowance. See Replay.

Rule

A project’s routing rule, which decides the dataset and shape of an event sent with an ingest key and no dataset in the path. Every rule that matches writes its own record. See Rules and mappings.

Run

One execution of a workflow, started by one matching record; the API calls it a workflow instance. An AI trigger’s execution is also called a run. See Instances & observability.

Source

A database source: a PostgreSQL table that Hookie polls on a schedule and files new rows from into a dataset, as events. Sources need the Pro or Team plan. See Limits and plans.

Submission

The request exactly as it arrived, with its method, headers and source IP, stored before any routing. One submission makes no record, one or several, and counts once against the monthly event quota. See Submissions.

Workflow

A multi-step process in a project that starts when a record lands in its entry dataset, and runs steps such as AI calls, HTTP calls, branches and waits. See Workflows & AI agents.

Workspace

Your account. It holds the projects, the plan and billing, API keys, connected agents and the audit log, and its slug is the first segment of every endpoint URL. See Projects.

One thing, three names

The console and these docs use the names above. The API and the MCP tools keep some older names for the same things: In prose, “webhook” means the HTTP request a provider sends, or one Hookie sends; the URL Hookie gives you to receive them is an endpoint.
